The 1745 Jacobite Rising in Scotland led to a major turning point in British history as thousands of Highlanders lost their lives in defending the House of Stuart and an independent Scotland. During the 18th century, the Jacobite supporters who would meet in secret to honour their (now defeated) ‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’, toasting their ‘king across the water’ with their Jacobite whisky glass.
